Tasting note
Vintage armagnacs from the 1950s are scarce, and this 1954 from Delord comes presented in a wooden box. Delord is a family house at Lannepax in the Bas Armagnac, and its oldest vintages are held in glass demijohns, away from the light, in a cellar room the family calls Paradise. This vintage spent a very long time in oak barrel and has benefited from that long maturation.
Grapes. Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche and Baco.
Nose. Vanilla and butter with toffee and biscuit, orange and prune, and a resinous hint of pine.
Palate. Mellow and well balanced, with citrus to the fore and orange above all.
Older armagnacs, Delord says, show their subtlety alone or with a chocolate dessert, a cigar or a tangy arabica coffee. See more vintages in our armagnac collection.

Others in the Delord family:

Delord Vineyard
Our vineyard spans 45 hectares, divided into 11 parcels, and is located in the village of Lannepax. It consists of the four traditional Armagnac grape varieties: Ugni Blanc (58%), Colombard (16%), Folle-Blanche (14%), and Baco (12%). Rinaldo, our vineyard manager, meticulously tends to the vines throughout the year.

Delord Distillery
The distillery is located in Lannepax, the family’s native village. Distillation, a crucial and fascinating step in the creation of Armagnac, occurs in the heart of winter. We are one of the few Armagnac houses using both distillation methods: the continuous distillation typical for Armagnac and double distillation. Our two Armagnac stills, one of which is a "Sier" dating from 1900, are column stills equipped with special "spider plates" ideal for producing aged Armagnacs. The two "double distillation" stills produce fruity eaux-de-vie intended for young Armagnacs.

Winemaking Cellar
The four grape varieties are harvested, pressed, and vinified separately in a winemaking cellar located a few metres from the distillery. Sylvain Delord expertly manages temperature control, must settling, and racking techniques. He aims to produce an aromatic wine that is slightly acidic and low in alcohol, which is ideal for distillation.

Armagnac Ageing
Delord Cellars house over 1,000 barrels and a dozen oak tanks, age and protect the Armagnac eaux-de-vie from the 20th century to the present day. The oldest vintages are stored in Bonbonnes (glass jars) away from light, in a room called Paradise.
