Tasting note
Le Légendaire is a Bas-Armagnac from Domaine Tariquet, aged as a Hors d'Age. Its eaux-de-vie average 15 years in French oak, well beyond the 10 year minimum the rules set for the Hors d'Age name. Tariquet counts it among the flagship blends of the estate, where the grapes are grown, harvested and bottled, and describes it as full of freshness and finesse.
Three grape varieties go into the blend: 40% Folle Blanche, 30% Ugni Blanc and 30% Baco. It is bottled at 42%.
In the glass it shows a delicate golden colour. The nose opens on tarte tatin and orange blossom, and turns to toffee as it breathes. The attack is fresh, supple and lively, with blonde caramel and liquorice, before the palate builds into roasted fruit, orange zest and fine spice: nutmeg, grey pepper and cinnamon. The finish is smooth.
