Tasting note
Kavalan Classic is where the story began, the distillery's very first release and still its flagship today. It's made with spring water from Taiwan's Snow Mountain range and matured mostly in refill and ex-bourbon casks, with a little sherry in the mix, showing off the clean, tropical-fruit character Kavalan is known for.
In the Glass
- Nose: Fruity, floral and clean, mango, orchid, honey, coconut, vanilla and pear drops, plus a touch of chocolate.
- Palate: Juicy, sweet mango with warmth and gentle spice.
- Finish: Citrusy and oily, of medium length.

Once your order is confirmed you will receive a shipping notification with a tracking reference. Larger or mixed orders sometimes travel as more than one parcel, and you will get tracking for each.
Alcohol can only be delivered to a person aged 18 or over. The courier may ask for photo ID and will not leave your order unattended. We do not offer authority to leave on alcohol orders.
We do not deliver to PO boxes or parcel lockers.

KAVALAN DISTILLERY
Kavalan is Taiwan’s pioneering single malt distillery, founded in 2005 in Yilan County, on the island’s north-east coast. Backed by the King Car Group’s decades in the drinks business, it set out to prove that world-class whisky could come from somewhere warm, wet and nothing like Scotland. Twenty years on, the whisky world agrees.
The Name
The name comes from the Kavalan people, the first inhabitants of the Yilan plain. Their name means “people of the flatland.”
The land sits between the Snow Mountain range and the Pacific Ocean, giving the distillery cold mountain spring water and salty sea air.
The ambition is to be a distillery that lasts a hundred years.
The Craft
The distillery was built in just nine months. From the start, it took advice from the late Dr Jim Swan, one of whisky’s most respected consultants, whose thinking on wood and climate shaped the Kavalan style.
That style is built on unpeated barley, copper pot stills designed for a lighter, fruit-forward spirit, and an obsessive focus on casks. Bourbon, sherry, port and wine barriques are all used, and Kavalan aims to hold the most complete range of sherry-cask, cask-strength whiskies anywhere.
The Whisky
In Yilan’s subtropical heat and humidity, spirit and oak work together far faster than in cooler climates. Kavalan calls this “maturity redefined”: rich, complex whisky in a fraction of the usual time. The price is a heavy angel’s share, with much more lost to evaporation each year than in Scotland. The mineral-rich mountain water adds the creamy texture that runs through every bottling.
The results speak for themselves. Kavalan has passed 1,000 gold medals or higher, and was named Distiller of the Year at the 2026 World Whiskies Awards.
