Tasting note
Roselle is the everyday name for Hibiscus sabdariffa, and its bright red calyx gives Maidenii's bitter both its colour and a good part of its flavour. Around it sit 23 other botanicals, including the Australian natives strawberry gum, Tasmanian pepperberry and saltbush. The bitterness is built on several roots, above all gentian from Aubrac in central France.
The base is Heathcote fruit fermented as a rosé, fortified with Maidenii's blend of botanical tinctures. All of the sugar comes from the grapes, at around 100 g/l. That puts it close to an aperitivo in style, though it works very well as a bitter in lower sugar, lower alcohol cocktails.
How the makers drink it. Co-founder Shaun Byrne would put it in a Negroni. Winemaker Gilles Lapalus leans towards a Roselle and soda before dinner, or a glass neat afterwards. Bottled at 22% in a 750ml bottle. Browse more in our bitters collection.

"Bitters" means two different things: dash bottles used a few drops at a time, and bitter liqueurs poured by the glass.

Prices are shown in New Zealand dollars. Orders may attract New Zealand customs duty, GST and clearance fees on arrival. Those costs are set by New Zealand Customs, are payable by the recipient, and are not collected by Liquor Wine Cave.
Once your order is confirmed you will receive a shipping notification with a tracking reference. Larger or mixed orders sometimes travel as more than one parcel, and you will get tracking for each.
Alcohol can only be delivered to a person aged 18 or over. The courier may ask for photo ID and will not leave your order unattended. We do not offer authority to leave on alcohol orders.
