Tasting note
Batch 2 from Old Louisville Whiskey Co. in Kentucky is a wheated bourbon, with no rye at all in the mash bill: 51% corn, 45% wheat and 4% malted barley. It spent six years in a damp, humid cellar and was bottled uncut, at cask strength, with no water added.
Nose. Bright fruit and green caramel apple over plenty of vanilla sweetness and spice, with dense, dark aromas underneath.
Palate. Spice comes first, swirled with sweetness and a burst of freshness, then caramel and cacao. The heat settles gently, and a zesty spice draws out a denser, nectar-like sweetness.
Finish. Long, smooth and intricate. For an undiluted bourbon it sips easily, yet there is plenty here to explore.
