Tasting note

The Couturier family grew grapes in the southern Maconnais for generations, selling to the cooperative until 2005, when Marcel Couturier made his first estate-bottled vintage at Fuisse. His children Cladie and Auxence now work alongside him, and the vineyards are farmed organically. Clos Scelles is a blend of two Pouilly-Fuisse sites: Clos Reyssie, with vines of more than 80 years on silty clay and limestone, and Les Scelles, with vines of 50 years and older on schist and clay. The wine ferments with native yeasts in Burgundian barrels and spends around 15 months in oak. The domaine describes white flowers, yellow fruit and preserved lemon on the nose, with a generous, full-bodied palate and crisp fruit. It is the richest of the Couturier whites, so pair it with roast chicken, pork or creamy sauces.
