Tasting note

The Giraud family has grown vines at Bouteville in the Grande Champagne for eleven generations, since Pierre Giraud in 1635. Earlier generations sold their cognacs to merchants in Jarnac and Cognac; in 1975 Paul and his son Paul-Jean began marketing under their own name, so that the old and rare cognacs in the family cellars could be tasted without blending. The Très Rare is the penultimate step in the family's range, and this is it in the Quadro, a carafe of cristallin glass in a wooden case with a velvet bag.

Tasting. Strikingly intense, powerful in its spice and complex, yet very mellow at the finish. Pepper and clove come first and mingle straight away with leather and cigar box, then fruit follows as prune. Sommeliers say it spreads like a peacock's tail across the palate, a poetic way of saying that every part of the mouth is engaged.

Once the glass is empty it releases the rancio of very old eaux de vie, a scent the house compares to wax polish on old furniture. Cigar smokers adore it, and the family recommends it for connoisseurs.

Delivery information

Most orders to New Zealand leave within 2 to 7 business days depending on the item. If anything is delayed we will tell you.

New Zealand orders travel by tracked international post. The cost is calculated at checkout. The free delivery threshold offered in Australia does not apply to New Zealand orders.

Prices are shown in New Zealand dollars. Orders may attract New Zealand customs duty, GST and clearance fees on arrival. Those costs are set by New Zealand Customs, are payable by the recipient, and are not collected by Liquor Wine Cave.

Once your order is confirmed you will receive a shipping notification with a tracking reference. Larger or mixed orders sometimes travel as more than one parcel, and you will get tracking for each.

Alcohol can only be delivered to a person aged 18 or over. The courier may ask for photo ID and will not leave your order unattended. We do not offer authority to leave on alcohol orders.

We do not deliver to PO boxes or parcel lockers.

Case minimums

Some products are sold only in cases of three, six or twelve. Where that applies it is stated above the add to cart button, not discovered at checkout.

Cases ship as a single carton. The per-case price shown includes every bottle in the case.
