Tasting note
Punt e Mes is a bitter-edged Italian vermouth from Turin, bottled at 16% ABV.
The name is Piedmontese for one point and a half, and it describes the drink exactly: one point of sweetness, half a point of bitterness. That extra bitter edge puts it somewhere between a standard sweet vermouth and a bitter aperitivo, which is why it can carry a drink on its own where a rosso would need help. It came from the Carpano house of Turin and is now made by Fratelli Branca of Milan, which acquired the brand in 2001.
Serve it over ice with soda and an orange slice, or swap it for rosso vermouth in a Negroni or a Manhattan.
