Tasting note
Vina Zorzal Garnacha is a young unoaked red from Corella in Navarra, northern Spain.
The Sanz brothers, Xabier, Inaki and Mikel, run 52 hectares here, of which around 25 are old garnacha bush vines. The entry-level garnacha is bottled without oak, which is the point of it: nothing between the drinker and the fruit, so the wine reads bright and red-fruited rather than spiced. Corella sits at enough altitude, and gets enough of the cold Cierzo wind, that the wines keep more freshness than the region's warmth would suggest.
Serve it slightly chilled, around 15 degrees, with charcuterie, tapas, grilled vegetables or pizza.
