Tasting note

Domaine Charvin was established in 1851 in the cooler northern sector of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Laurent Charvin, the sixth generation, took over in 1990 and began bottling the estate's own wine, and the vineyards are certified organic, with an average vine age of over 50 years. The 2023 Chateauneuf-du-Pape is 82% Grenache with 5% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre, 4% Vaccarese and a little Counoise, grown on sandy, north facing slopes. Charvin ferments with 100% whole bunches and ages the wine entirely in concrete, with no wood at all, before bottling fined but unfiltered. Critics note menthol, spice, cassis and mulberry, a medium to full, dense and layered palate with a tensile core of fruit and velvety tannins, and a finish of real freshness. Perfumed and precise rather than heavy, with the structure to age for many years.
