Tasting note
Pastis Henri Bardouin comes from Distilleries et Domaines de Provence, the Haute-Provence distillery that Henri Bardouin joined in 1946. The pastis bearing his name was born in 1990 as an evolution of an earlier herbal recipe, enriched with exotic spices, and today it draws on more than 65 plants and spices.
Some of them have a clear job to do. Mugwort gives a faint green tint and a hint of bitterness, star anise forms the base, cardamom adds a soft, rounded volume, grains of paradise bring freshness and length, black and white pepper show on the finish, and cinnamon softens the pepper's bite.
Tasting note. Clear and bright, yellow brown with green glints. The nose is aniseed, green, spicy and fresh; the palate aromatic, aniseed, spiced and refreshing.
Serving. The distillery suggests diluting it with six to ten times its volume of pure, cool water, before a meal or in cocktails. It pairs well with rose, lemon, mint, basil and rosemary. For the classic variations, a tomate takes grenadine, a perroquet takes mint syrup and a mauresque takes orgeat. Once opened, store the bottle upright at room temperature rather than in the fridge. More styles are in our pastis collection.
